A Walk with Courtney Allen & Lessons Lasting Since the ’90s

I recently took a Dialogue Miles™ walk with Courtney Allen, someone I’ve known since the late ’90s when we first worked together at Standard Register. What started as a professional connection built on trust has become something much deeper: years of mentorship, honest conversations, and a steady presence through the ups and downs of work and life.

As we walked, we talked about what’s changed and what hasn’t. We covered how work keeps evolving, how pressure never really lets up, and how important it is to stay rooted in what matters.

Here is What Stuck with Me

  • Family First
It is the foundation that supports us, both personally and professionally.

  • Embrace Vulnerability
Facing challenges builds deeper understanding and compassion.

  • Live Your Values
What we believe should be visible in how we lead and how we live.

  • Everyday Leadership
Leadership shows up in small moments as much as big decisions.

  • Lead Fully
It is not limited to work. It carries into every part of life.

  • Own Your Growth
Accountability drives progress for ourselves and for those around us.

  • Speak Clearly
Honest, direct communication builds stronger relationships.

  • Invite Perspective
Welcoming different views leads to better outcomes.

  • Show Up
In-person time deepens connection and strengthens collaboration.

I walked away, reminded of the kind of leader I aspire to be and how much wisdom lives in long conversations with people who’ve walked alongside me.

These are the moments that shape us.
