Curiosity Opens the Door

I recently walked a mile in the Nashville rain with brian block, and it’s one of those Dialogue Miles™ conversations I’ve been reflecting on since.

We first met years ago, serving together on the Board of LION. Over the years, the foundation has only strengthened: trust, respect, and the kind of dialogue that comes from showing up over time. And yes, some golf along the way.

Where Strong Partnerships Begin

Walking together was a good reminder that most strong partnerships don’t start with business.

They start with:

  • Curiosity

  • Shared experience

  • Taking the time to actually talk

What Surfaced Along the Way

A few reflections from our walk:

🔹 Curiosity opens doors
You can learn unexpected things when you choose to ask.

🔹 Gratitude and humility go together
Gratitude for the blessings of success, paired with humility for the many who were not as fortunate along the way.

🔹 Role clarity matters in the boardroom
Offer precise insights, challenge perspectives, and keep it actionable.

🔹 Trust grows through experience
When you rely on your own experience — and use it with discernment — trust deepens.

A Simple Observation

We’re fortunate to get to build things together, anchored in mutual respect and genuinely enjoying the time.

An Idea to Carry Forward:

The next time you sit down with someone, notice one thing you’re curious about and ask about it. The next conversation just might be a new start.

Brian, thank you for the time, the conversation, and the continued partnership.
