Four Decades of Friendship with Meyer Weiss

Meyer Weiss is one of the most consistent human beings that I have known over the last 4 decades. We have experienced a career built on collaboration, business transformation, and hyper-growth. Our initial link came when I was working at Flexcon as a market development leader in the automatic identification business. Our category was pressure-sensitive materials where I was the durable materials/ coatings expert and Meyer advanced the use of direct thermal materials. Our relationship was built on a common mentor in Mark Ungerer, the CEO of FLEXcon at the time. It led us to build a consumables group within AIM, the industry forum and to speak about the vast potential of our solutions during many big industry events.

I met Meyer in Palm Beach on a sunny and breezy morning for a 4.5-mile Dialogue Miles™ walk and breakfast at a local diner where we reflected on friendship approaching 40 years. Meyer is one of my go-to people regardless of whether life is going great or the challenges age amassing.

Reflections from the Walk

  • Enduring Friendship
Real friendships hold through both the highs and the lows. Time only strengthens what is built on trust.

  • Who You Call
Having someone you can share all truths with, both good and difficult, is rare. Keep that circle close.

  • Principles
When asked what he knows for sure, Meyer’s answer was simple. Principles. Know them and stay true.

  • Stay Fresh
Surround yourself with people who challenge your thinking, not just agree with it. Growth comes from stimulation.

  • Next Stage
There comes a moment when you know it is time to shift. Maslow’s framework can help bring clarity to that transition.

  • Early Flights
Life’s small moments, like sitting on a 5:00 am flight, can create reflection. Be clear on your priorities and what you may be missing.

  • See You Again
Friendship requires intention. Choose the next time to connect before this one ends.

Grateful for the walk, Meyer. And for a friendship that continues to evolve.
