What real progress does to belief
A few years ago, I was in Bucharest for Paragon’s groundbreaking ceremony.
At that point, all we had was intent and commitment. The true test was still to come.
This week, I returned with the board to see what those investments of time, energy, and belief had become: a thriving operation, expanded capabilities, and work reaching across Romania, Europe, and global markets.
The technology turned heads, but it was the people who made the difference. Every bit of growth traced back to a handful of clear leadership choices: setting ambitious targets early, empowering local teams to own challenges, and maintaining an unrelenting focus on both quality and long-term partnership.
Here are a few lessons that really stood out for me:
1. Consistency builds trust
When you meet someone once, you form an impression. When you meet them again, you learn who they really are. Manuela and Vasile were exactly who I remembered—thoughtful, grounded, and kind. Consistency, over time, is one of the clearest signs of great leadership.
2. Kindness and toughness are not opposites
There’s a misconception that kindness means avoiding hard conversations. What I saw instead: kindness as honesty, as clarity, and as a willingness to push toward better outcomes. The best leaders approach difficulty with respect and openness.
3. Stay level, especially when things aren’
It’s easy to lead when everything is going right. The real test is how you show up when it’s not. A level approach—steady, thoughtful, grounded—creates confidence for everyone around you.
4. Progress fuels belief
There’s something powerful about seeing evidence. Not projections. Not plans. Not slides. Real progress. When people can point to what’s been built and what’s working, it changes energy. It builds momentum. It helps people believe in what comes next.
Closing Reflection
This Dialogue Miles didn’t measure distance in steps. It measured the depth of conversation, range of environments, and strength of connection. From a facility floor to a shared meal to a communal garden, each space added something different to the dialogue. The reminder: it’s not always about how far you walk. It’s about how present you are where you stand.
Grateful to the entire Paragon Romania team for the welcome, the openness, and the genuine care. Looking forward to the next mile, wherever it happens.
