Taking Coffee To-Go and Letting the Conversation Unfold

{Ryan Mellors} and I set out for a walk in midtown Nashville and ended up with five solid miles, because when you're competitive, 4.8 just isn’t enough.

We skipped sitting down for breakfast and took our coffee to-go and started walking. My order was the same, a flat white of course.

We moved down Broadway, passed Printer’s Alley, paused at the Ryman Auditorium, and leaned over the railing above the train tracks, talking history, leadership, family, and the kind of values that stick.

Key takeaways from our time together

  • Relationship building creates long-term impact.
The effort you put into people compounds over time.

  • Humility builds powerful bonds.
The way you show up matters more than the title you carry.

  • Honesty and transparency accelerate business.
    Clarity creates momentum.

  • Competitiveness and listening can coexist.
The balance of drive and awareness creates stronger leadership.

  • Health is rooted in balance.
Rest, what you take in, and your mindset all matter.

Ryan shared heartwarming stories about his family and the lessons he’s teaching—not by telling, but by living them. It’s clear that Paragon ID has a great leader in Ryan: thoughtful, grounded, and driven.

On the horizon: more steps, a few rounds of golf, and a football match or two. But this walk reminded me that the real journey is in the conversations that shape us. Intentional human connection creates a lasting impact.

Grateful for the miles, Ryan, and for the kind of conversation that unfolds naturally and stays with you long after the walk ends. Looking forward to the next one.
