A Conversation from Ukraine with Kara Lapierre

A few years ago, I met Kara Lapierre while working with my friend Bruce Steinberg, CEO of RELYCO. Kara’s adventurous spirit, creative mind, and caring heart were evident from the start.

Recently, she embarked on a courageous and inspiring mission in Ukraine, where she now lives and works in Zaporizhzhia, connecting with people and bringing hope where she can. Right now, that looks like teaching English and visiting orphans.

We reconnected through a remarkable and deeply moving Dialogue Miles™ conversation over FaceTime. While it wasn’t the usual walk-and-talk, the core element of Dialogue Miles, intentional, human connection, was fully present.

When I called, I didn’t know what to expect. But there she was, calm, warm, and grounded in the same authenticity that I came to admire when working with her in New Hampshire.

Kara’s unwavering passion for helping those impacted by the devastation of war shone through our dialogue. She shared stories of courage, resilience, and the human spirit, which left me in awe of her commitment. When I asked her what the residents in Ukraine wanted to know most about her, her answer was simple yet profound: “How she feels!”

That response speaks volumes about the empathy and connection Kara cultivates. She brings her full heart into her work, activating kindness and the courage to do what is right, even in the face of unimaginable challenges.

Takeaways from the Conversation

  • Trust your heart.
Follow what matters, even when the path is not easy.

  • Connection is not limited by distance.
Technology can still create meaningful space for real conversation.

  • Courage requires action.
It is not just belief. It is what you choose to do.

Kara, you are a force for good in this world, and I’m honored to know you. Grateful for the conversation.
