Ten Miles Through London and the Power of In-Between Moments with Mike Gordon

Mike Gordon invited me for a tour of London during my recent visit to the UK.

We took a Dialogue Miles™ walk throughout the city covering 10 miles on a beautiful day, a few laughs, great sites, and of course a pint.

A Few Things That Stayed with Me

  • Friendships Are Built Over Time
Friendships are forged through common experiences often in our careers; however, they are built to last by spending meaningful time together learning about one another.

  • Make Space to Think
As we bury ourselves in our daily schedules, we miss the time and space to explore, reflect and to think or talk deeply. Walking alone provides the physical and mental opportunity to connect with our surroundings, however, walking together with a friend allows us to make a deeper connection with that person.

  • Experience Creates Impact
Walking throughout a city consumed nearly three hours of our time. The memories from the conversation and the sites of London are indelible. A three-hour business meeting rarely delivers such an impact.

  • Stability in a Changing World
We talk about adapting to change so often, yet experiencing the stability of an old city’s historic landmarks together, including a pint at the timeless Georgian pub in the London School of Economics after four decades, is truly comforting.

  • Value the In-Between Moments
Our 10-mile walk was planned, but the pint in the pub was not. It was an 'in-between moment' where the walking stopped, but the dialogue continued. Have goals, and have a plan for your journey, but leave space for and cherish life's in-between moments.
